It should be noted that the section of this message dealing with marriage addresses only Jesus' teachings in this passage and not the New Testament teaching on the subject elsewhere. I do not want the fact of the permanence of marriage in God's eyes to be construed as counsel that a person should stay in a dangerous situation. The Apostle Paul clarifies in his teaching on marriage that if a person needs to leave a marriage, he or she should remain single or be reconciled since marrying another is adultery unless the marriage is ended because of infidelity or unless an unbelieving spouse leaves their spouse who is a believer.
